Connect through reading
While Wonder Stories is fun to read alone, parents and grandparents have told us it’s been even more fun reading together. There’s nothing like celebrating a success of solving a mystery together.
TIPS FOR A GREAT READING EXPERIENCE:
When “Question Screens” come up. Ask your reader what they think the answer might be. They won’t know yet, but it’s fun to guess.
Let your child answer wrong. It’s more fun when your child has the steering wheel; success feels even better after failure.
Whenever the 'Green Success Dinosaur pops up, let your reader know how impressed you are that they got it right. (Even if it took multiple times to get it right - perseverance is a skill too!)
Tips for Reading Together Remotely:
Step 1
Download the Wonder Stories and have your grandchild download the app too. If you have an iPad and a phone, we recommend downloading Wonder Stories on the iPad.
Step 2
Set up another screen to communicate with your reader. Most likely this will be a laptop or you can use your phone if you’re reading off of an iPad. (If you only have your phone to connect with your grandchild then you can call them and then open Wonder Stories.)
Step 3
With Wonder Stories open have your grandchild choose which book they want to read together.
Every time you tap the pencil, tell your reader to touch the pencil too.
Similarly, every time you swipe a page away with the finger down motion, have your grandchild do the same.
